Midori and collaborator, Robert McDonald, bring a program of contemporary works for violin and piano to Zankel Hall for Midori's only New York appearance this year.

Midori once again offers us a new perspective, taking a chance on an all-contemporary program. Taking a chance not because audiences might be wary (and they might, even in New York) but the risk is in the unusual level of commitment and thoroughness which Midori brings to the project.

The violinist has aggressively explored the contemporary violin repertoire, particularly during the last decade. Out of the myriad of contemporary works she has performed in concert, Midori has picked five works, written between 1979 and 2000, for her all-Contemporary programs. The Contemporary concert tour started in Japan in 2003, in between a packed schedule of concerts with orchestra and appearances with her recital partner Robert McDonald. The recital program has now moved to the United States. In some cities, but not New York, there is an educational component to make sure the public has access to information and examples that will enrich their concert experience.

However, Midori's website has full biographical information and essays on the composers: Midori.com
