Conductor Anne Manson leads the closing concert of the Juilliard School's FOCUS 2006 Festival.
The Juilliard's 22nd annual FOCUS! Festival, New and Now, concludes their Juilliard Centennial series of concerts this week with four evenings of chamber concerts and ends with a concert by the Juilliard Symphony, conducted by Anne Manson. On Friday February 3rd, the orchestra, joined by the Juilliard Choral Union, will present the world premiere of a Juilliard Centennial commission work: Paul Schoenfield's Gospel Oratorio No. 2 “Channah”. Chamber concerts during the week feature other Juilliard Centennial commissions, including a world premiere of a work by Milton Babbitt More Melismata for solo Cello.
In addition to the Schoenfield work, the Friday evening program includes the New York premiere of Zhou Long's The Enlightened, and the U.S. premiere of Spiriti, a concerto for accordion and orchestra by Finnish composer Jukka Tiensuu. The work will be performed by Mikko Luoma, a young Finnish virtuoso, for whom the piece was written.
