The Argentinean born pianist Mirian Conti brings folk inspired works of Argentinean composers as well as three world premieres to the Merkin Concert Hall.
The concert will feature the world premiere of the solo piano version of Spainish composer Ernesto Halffter’s Sonatina. Originally conceived for orchestra as a ballet, the composer’s piano version has never been performed in its entirety. Halffter was known as a master orchestrator (who studied with Ravel), and pianist in his own rite, Although Halffter may be best known in the United States for his orchestrations and piano transcriptions of the work of Manuel de Falla.
Composers Benjamin Lees and David Winkler have written new works for Ms. Conti. The concert will also celebrate the release of her new Albany Records CD Looking South, a collection of 20th century Argentinean compossers including works by Alberto Ginastera, Julian Aguirre and Juan Jose Ramos. Ms. Conti will perform works by Aguirre and Ramos.
Mirian Conti enjoys a strong reputation as a musician whose performances combine technical brilliance with striking originality and artistic insight. Stylistically assured in a wide range of repertoire, Ms. Conti is considered a leading exponent of Spanish music and South American music. She has also planned some works by Scriabin and Chopin, get ready for a full night of piano.
